Giuseppe Fico

Giuseppe is assistant professor of biomedical engineering at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and coordinator of the Health area at the Life Supporting Technologies group at UPM. He is Secretary General of the European Alliance of Medical and Biological Engineering, former co-chairman of the Working Group on Health of the Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation, coordinator of the Adherence Action Group at the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing and founding member of the “ACTIVAGE.org” association.

He is member of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society and of the Spanish and Italian associations of BIomedical Engineering and collaborator of the Health Technology Assessment Division and Clinical Engineering Divistion of the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering. He is acting as Technical Manager of Large Scale Pilots funded by the EC to demonstrate the impact of AI, 5G, IoT and Robotics on the hospital of the future (ODIN), to create a new generation of digital health services for chronic disease management and prevention (GATEKEEPER) and for independent living (ACTIVAGE), and for follow up of head and neck cancer survivors (Big Data 4 QoL).

He is lecturer of courses in Biomedical Engineering and Telecomunication Engineering at UPM, such as Electronic Healthcare Records, Interoperability and Standards (coordinator), Fundamentals of Biomedical Engineering (coordinator), Clinical Engineering, Telemedicine, and Human Machine Interaction. He is initiator of strategic cooperation frameworks between the LifeSTech research group and relevant private and public healthcare institutions. He is Associated Editor of the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics and Frontiers in Digital Health
