The IMPROVE project aims to make digital healthcare more efficient by using Patient Generated Health Data throughout the analyses of newly developed treatments, solutions and care pathways to benefit the patients. Health care systems in the EU region have become increasingly digital. In addition, medical doctors, pharmacists, researchers, politicians and other experts in the healthcare sector use and exchange a large number of patient-related health data to make better decisions and use the most effective treatment possible. Nonetheless, the quality of the data exchange is not sufficient due to a lack of standards and efficient ways of using Patient Generated Health Data. Workflows and operating procedures are often not efficient which leads to problems in decision-making processes. Additionally, this increases the costs of health services. The IMPROVE team will develop a platform to gather and exchange Patient Generated Health Data and it will be tested in clinical settings in different medical specialties that will ultimately bring to better outcomes to patients. During the first conceptualization phase of the project, research and policy papers will be analyzed using AI-based software, establishing the state-of-the-art of (scientific) research on the effective use of Patient Generated Health Data. In the second phase, the platform requirements will be defined in extensive collaboration with patients, healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers, citizens, associations, and service providers. The user-centered design approach that IMPROVE will use, considers the understanding that all kinds of sustainable development processes need the inclusion of relevant stakeholders from the early beginning. After a detailed analysis of historical data from several consortium partners, case studies in the fields of oncology, ophthalmology, cardiovascular and neurology will be executed to collect relevant insights. The outcomes from these case studies will support the successful implementation of the IMPROVE platform.
The project started on December 2023. The Kick-off meeting has been held at the premises of the project coordinator, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. The partners get to know each other and defined the main indicators and research area to search for existing state of the art literature and solutions related with Patient Generated Health Data. Last 18thand 19th June, the consortium has gone through the first General Assembly in Amsterdam, hosted by the project Industry leader, Philips. In this occasion the consortium has launched the project website, the social media channels and finalized the screening phase of the conceptualization phase.
