Giuseppe Fico is Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM).
He is head of the health area at Life Supporting Technologies (LifeStech) group at UPM and affiliated researcher at the Group of Surgical Research Innovation at Health Research Institute of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos, Madrid, Spain.
He is President of the European Alliance of Medical and Biological Engineering and Science, Spanish Ambassador for the Hospital on FHIR initiative from HL7 Europe, representing the Madrid regional ministry for digitalization, with the support from HL7 Spain.
He is collaborator of the Clinical Engineering, Health Technology Assessment and Digital Health Division of the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering.
Since 2007 he has served as Technical Manager of >10 competitive projects funded by the European Commission, among them, the Flagship European Large Scale Pilots ACTIVAGE, GATEKEEPER, ODIN to demonstrate the impact of AI, Robotics and IoT technologies in creating a new generation of digital health platforms for innovative services and processes in health and wellbeing.
He is coordinator of the IHI projects BEAMER and IMPROVE, where digital tools are built for adherence to treatment and for the role of PROMs and PREMs in disease management.
He is lecturer of >10 courses in Biomedical and Telecommunication Engineering at UPM, invited expert in international conferences from different scientific and industrial societies, in summer schools, and for certified training to healthcare professionals and managers.
Current research interests include eHealth and digital health, human computer interaction, decision support systems applied to personalized medicine, disease management, longevity, and health care processes.
